Sr. Chemist – Lab Manager

Location: Cleveland, OH

Description: Pioneer Athletics seeks a full-time, highly motivated, experienced candidate to serve as a Sr. Chemist and Lab Manager at its manufacturing plant located on the West Side of Cleveland. The Senior Chemist/Lab Manager will lead new product development programs and develop testing procedures required to review and maintain quality control and assurance of existing products and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. This candidate will need to have a solid background in research, lab management, analytical and organizational skills to bring projects to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field required; Master’s degree would be a plus
  • At least five years of related work experience as a formulary chemist
  • Background in Paint and Coatings
  • Thorough understanding of chemical tests and processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven product development management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to draft laboratory reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface with sales staff and customers
  • Thorough understanding of the commercial aspects of new and existing products.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, and oversee subordinate staff in the department.
  • Oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff of three in the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely managerial reporting.
  • Ability to interface with highest levels of management.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identifies changes in regulations and policies, keeps up to date with advances in technology.
  • Researches, creates, develops, and tests compounds and formulas used in products, exercising professional judgment in the evaluation, selection, and modification of ingredients, applied methods and techniques.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements to maintain quality, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and other parameters.
  • Drafts and distributes laboratory reports detailing results of testing and analysis.
  • Maintains documentation for each project assignment; reviews reports written by subordinate staff for accuracy and compliance with professional standards.
  • Collaborates with management and other departments.
  • Recommends, operates, maintains, and tests laboratory equipment; identifies problems when equipment fails and conducts or recommends repairs.
  • Drafts standard operating procedures and safety materials.
  • Assists with environmental health and safety standards including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemical agents.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state, local, and organizational best practices and environmental health and safety regulations.

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Experience in the Sports Field Industry is ideal but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Building new relationships and growing existing ones, generating new business, connecting with prospects, and closing deals while using a proven and successful sales process
  • Make face–to–face sales calls in and around Seattle, WA (I5 corridor from Thurston County to Whatcom County) for a minimum of 10 days each month.
  • Work from home, making sales calls, over the phone, to Western and Southern Washington as well as most of Oregon.

Field Sales Department

Field Sales Representatives are responsible for the sales activity between the customer, possible prospects and existing customers in their assigned territories. The Field Representative is responsible for carrying out the policies and objectives of Pioneer, as well as, the specific profit objectives assigned by management. EOE

Order Processing/Administrative Support

This position receives and processes incoming orders for industrial and athletics merchandise for our customer base located throughout the America, Europe and Asia. Customer Service

This position requires telephone interaction with existing and potential customers providing responses to inquires about our products and services. Duties also include generating new product interest and cross-selling with current and potential customers. Mostly inbound calls from our customers who are NFL team personnel, athletic field personnel and school coaches to name a few. The right candidate must possess a high level of phone skills, enjoy talking on the phone to the public and possess an interest in the world of sports. Purchasing Agent/Buyer

This position sources athletic goods, services and equipment for Pioneer.
