Fields of Excellence

What's your field's story?

Field of ExcellenceEvery athletic field has a story to tell. It may be the great rivalry game twenty years ago. Maybe it was the year the conference championships were hosted on it. Or, maybe it’s the care given to it by dedicated professionals or volunteers throughout a year.

At Pioneer Athletics we are proud to salute the men and women who work hard to make game day a special day by producing an exceptional field of play.

Here are some highlights from a few of our Field of Excellence winners last year.

What makes your field special? Apply today and tell us why you have a Field of Excellence! - 2009 Applications are due December 31st, 2009! -

University of Florida - Gainesville, Florida
University of Florida“The University of Florida is committed to excellence. UF’s Department of Recreational Sports shares this commitment as exemplified by the recognition of University Village South (UVS) Field as a Field of Excellence by Pioneer Athletics. Through the commitment and hard work of the Recreational Sports field crew, and the support of Pioneer Athletics, the University of Florida is able to provide UF’s students with exceptional fields to compete on and enjoy for the Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs programs."

New Hampshire Fisher Cats - Manchester, New Hampshire
New Hampshire Fisher Cats“We recognize that the long hours and ever-changing conditions make turf management one of the most challenging aspects of a baseball operation, and we are proud that our turf crew has been rewarded for their commitment to excellence."
- Rick Brenner, Fisher Cats President
Grassfield High School - Chesapeake, Virginia
Grassfield High School“When opposing teams come to our field, they are immediately taken aback by the precision of the lines, the multiple color schemes, and the comprehensive use of yardage marks.”
“We get a huge thrill when we hear opposing coaches and players say that ‘this field looks like a college field.’”
Genoa Area High School - Genoa, Ohio
Genoa Area High School“The paint crew at Comet Stadium is a great group of volunteers who get along and work very well together. Even greater dedication is exhibited as many of the volunteers take vacation days off from their jobs to ensure that the field is ready on game day.”
Benton Harbor High School - Benton Harbor, Michigan
Benton Harbor High School“When the visiting coaches from the Big 16 Conference play at Filstrup Field, most say our field is the best one that they play on.”

East Sac County Community School - Lake View, Iowa
East Sac County Community School“Much of the credit for our football field goes to Steve Nuetzman. It takes a lot of time to prepare, but Steve realizes this is about giving kids a special experience. At times weather does not cooperate but somehow, someway Steve finds a way to get the field ready to go for Friday night. It is something special on that first home football game to see the field in all its color. The crowd, coaches, and the players expect it and Steve always has it ready to go.”
Ensworth High School - Nashville, Tennessee
Ensworth High School“We took great pride in surprising the school with a “leaping tiger” on the center of our field for both playoff games. We laid it out and painted it under the lights Thursday night before the first playoff game. What a joy to see the students and community become so giddy as game time approached and the word spread about the “tiger.”
Reicher Catholic High School - Waco, Texas
Reicher Catholic High School“While some may prepare something special for the big game, we prepare something special every week! It is not unheard of for the players to head straight to the field Thursday morning to see what was created that week. Even a teacher or two can be spotted sneaking a peak!”
